Why your "Expert" title is holding you back - February 12, 2026

Stop trying to be an expert. Honestly, it's a trap. We're told to pick one lane and stay in it for 20 years. But the reality is, we don't want to be that marketing person or banking person. AI can mimic an expert in about three seconds. What it can't do is actively solve messy human cross-industry problems. Look at my career. I started in pharma sales, spent years in telecom. If I'd have stayed an expert in my lane, I never would have been asked to lead the launch of a digital bank.

I didn't succeed there because I knew more about banking than anyone. I succeeded because I knew how to take a big complex strategy and actually make it work in the real world. So the insight that I call this is being an operational architect. It's about being a segment of one. The person who connects all the dots that everyone else is missing because they're too focused on the standard way of doing things. So stop worrying about your job title. Start focusing on the unique way that you solve problems. That's how you become irreplaceable.

If you need to fine tune your trajectory, let's talk.
