It’s late November. The pressure is on to finish strong, and the single most difficult task looming is documenting your own value for review season. Most of us are taught to be humble—to let our work speak for itself. But in the professional world, that virtue is costing you money and opportunity.


This week, we’re challenging modesty.

This week's action:




Start a simple, private running document labeled "Evidence of Impact." For the next two weeks, whenever you get positive feedback, resolve a tough problem, or complete a difficult project, spend two minutes recording the accomplishment and its result (quantifiable data or clear impact). Your action is simply to gather the data—no need to share it yet.

Why this matters:



Your hard work doesn't speak for itself; you must speak for it, using data. Modesty is a choice that costs money. Your manager is busy, stressed, and will naturally forget the valuable project you completed in March. This "Brag Document" removes emotion from self-advocacy and transforms your accomplishments into objective evidence. It’s the single most critical asset you have for negotiating a raise, securing a promotion, or landing your next job. You aren't "bragging;" you are presenting a factual record of your financial, strategic, or time-saving impact.


Where to start? How to capture data (Not Ego):

  • Focus on Before-and-After: Don't just record the task ("Wrote a new report"). Record the result ("Generated $15K in new sales leads," or "Reduced reporting time for the team by 3 hours per week").


  • Track the "Invisible Work": Did you successfully de-escalate a client issue? Did you solve a complex technical problem that everyone else missed? Did you mentor a junior colleague? Track the problem and your solution.


  • Capture the Quotes: Save specific positive feedback from managers or colleagues (e.g., "Jane said this was the clearest analysis she's seen all year"). These quotes are data points for your reputation.
